Nelson, FINALLY

Yesterday was a looooooonnnggg day, 7 hours of hard driving. The last two hours were going up and down VERY twisty-turny roads into Nelson. VERY. We were hanging on for dear life in Ralph. I imagine the New Zealanders approaching us from the other direction were quite amused by the expressions on our faces. Gad, that road was steep and wrinkled. We were so ready to get out by the time we got here last night. We found a very nice campervan park in town, with hot showers and warm bathrooms. Much appreciated!

We spent today wandering around helping the local economy. I was expecting Cousin Horatio to be well represented here, but he's not. No statue, no nuthin'. But at least today I found a sculpture commemorating 200th anniversary of the Trafalgar victory in 1805 so at least somebody remembers him!

There's lots about Ernest (born Earnest) Rutherford, the man who discovered how to split the atom. He was born in Nelson, and there's lots of information about him.

We went to the Nelson Provincial Museum today and learned lots about the area. Then had lunch at a delightful pub called Sprig & Fern. Lots of different beers on tap, and really good food.
